DENVER, CO Highway 30 goes into Laramie, Wyoming. There, I stopped for a green tea chai at Grounds, an Internet coffeehouse, and checked my email. Leaving town, I noticed on the map that Highway 30 led into Highway 287, which seemed to be a shortcut to Fort Collins, Colorado. Granted, the speed limit would be less. I thought I'd try it. Fog. Heavy fog. I could hardly see the road. It was slow going for an hour until I got into Fort Collins. Finally the fog turned to light misty rain. I took the main highway into Denver, for my appointment. If I had a secretarial staff, I would contact churches and hospitals all along my route, knowing that I could line up consulting appointments and speaking engagements. In this instance, several people saw my itinerary on the Internet on this website (see schedule) and called me. That's just how I would like to see it work. Even an hour of consulting can be helpful to the client and pay for my day's travel expenses. The first place in Denver was a neighborhood church where members pklan to build two or three labyrinths, doing it themselves. I looked at the sites and made several suggestions. We then sat down and drew up a few sketches of patterns that would be practical. Although I stayed longer, I charged them only for one hour ($90). They were inspired and excited. They planned to get right to work on the labyrinths. I stayed the night at a downtown Ramada Inn, walking up to the 16th Street Mall to find a place for dinner. The next morning I met with a large Denver church that wants an outdoor labyrinth as a public service, to be used by the community. I really like their plans. Labyrinths are a great contribution to make to a community. We looked at several sites and zeroed in on one. I will be sending some additional drawings for them to use in promoting it in the church and the community. I then began driving east again, stopping only for gas and antique malls, until I got to Salina, Kansas. See Salina. |
